Faith and I will be there with Tweetie Bird in tow. CU and Santa soon!

PS. if you want to see a fun movie, go see A Christmas Carol with Jim Carrey. We did so last night and finally starting to feel in the Holiday Spirit! (Thursday won't hurt either )

Now I love Sedona, and I could be described as a "New Ager" by virtue of my diverse travels on the "spiritual path," and I know less and less about what that means as my travels advance. Howsumever, Sedona does not escape as cleanly as your blog would indicate, although I understand there are reasons for your having said what you did. Sedona is the only place in the country I know of that touts its energy vortexes, and the merchandising of spirituality is a key theme in the town's tourist appeal. Never have I seen such a concentration of New Age goods for sale. That's all fine, but I do think it invites hucksters to join with the sincere folks, and it's not always easy for an individual to pick out the charismatic charlatans.

To me, the Ray tragedy features a devils brew of Outward Bound and positive thinking with odd bits of spiritual thrown in as an afterthough. To me, a spiritual warrior is one who seeks surrender to their own inner being, not someone who succeeds in walking on hot coals or the like. If a teacher or guru is involved, there'd better be a lot of caveat emptor, because there are a whole, whole lot of people who think they've reached guru-status without knowing exactly what that is. Best to stick with a tried and true lineage in which the teacher has been approved by his or her own enlightened teacher. If anyone features prosperity, they have no right to use the word spirituality. Nothing wrong with being in a state that draws prosperity, but that would be a side effect and not something to feature unless you're heavy into marketing.

Another observation is surprise that Ray had so bought into his own hype that he couldn't discriminate when something really bad was going down in front of his eyes. You could fairly say he is terribly deluded. Hurting people was certainly not in his own interest, but he couldn't see what any child could have. Really bad stuff was happening.

As for Sedona, maybe the forces that be in the universe sought to teach the town a lesson. Right livelihood involves more than selling crystals and other bling bling. The land on which Sedona rests is very special and powerful. Abuse it with overemphasis on spiritual commerce, and there may be karmic consequences.

We were visiting from Wichita, KS, and spending some time at Tlaquepauqe when the storm hit on Thursday, Sept. 10, 2009. We were there 5 hours before we could get to our car, the water was so high! We were so happy to see it had not floated away!!! What an experience!!! We won't soon forget!

As a former resident (just last year) of the area I was sad to hear about how bad this flood was and how it affected the shops at Tlaquepaque, one of my favorite eating/shopping haunts.

Hope you are all okay and up and running soon!

Wow! Great pics guys, and groovy to see Wendy Lippman interviewed at the scene of the chaos. We were in a meeting at Sedona Rouge, and we thought we had it bad. But this is remarkable! Only a few earlier today, I sat in one of Tlaquepaque's shady plazas on the bench with lunch. Things couldn't have been quieter, or more relaxed. - Dennis Andres, "Mr. Sedona"
